1. An article comprising:
a. a glass substrate; and
b. a lubricating additive,
wherein the lubricating additive is deposited over the surface of the glass substrate forming a tribological coating.
2. The article as claimed in claim 1, wherein the glass substrate is selected from silica
glass, borosilicate glass, aluminosilicate glass, or other inorganic oxide glass.
3. The article as claimed in claim 1, wherein the glass substrate is silica glass.
4. The article as claimed in claim 1, wherein the lubricating additive is selected from graphene, graphene oxide, chemically functionalized graphene oxide, or chemically functionalized graphene.
5. The article as claimed in claim 1, wherein the lubricating additive is graphene oxide.
6. The article as claimed in claim 1, wherein the article further comprises a second additive with the lubricating additive.
7. The article as claimed in claim 1, wherein the tribological coating reduce scratch-induced or stress-induced damage to the glass substrate.
8. The article as claimed in claim 1, wherein the lubricating additive forms a lubricious coating of thickness in the range of 100-500 nm on the surface of the glass substrate.
9. A method of manufacturing the article as claimed in claim 1, the method comprising the steps of:
a. providing the glass substrate and a probe;
b. providing a dispersion to a contact area between the glass substrate and the
probe; and
c. mechanically rubbing the probe against the surface of the glass substrate to
obtain the article,
wherein the mechanically rubbing is carried out with maximum contact stress ranging up to 1 GPa.
10. The method as claimed in claim 9, wherein the probe is spherical sapphire probe, or silica probe.
11. The method as claimed in claim 9, wherein the dispersion comprises 0.01 to 5 mg of the lubricating additive in per ml of a solvent; and the solvent is water.
12. The method as claimed in claim 9, wherein the mechanically rubbing is carried out by scratching or sliding the probe against the surface of the glass substrate.
13. The method as claimed in claim 12, wherein the sliding is carried out at a sliding speed in the range of 0.1 to 1 mm/s for a time period of at least 5 minutes.
14. The method as claimed in claim 9, wherein the glass substrate and the probe are subjected to cleaning prior to mechanically rubbing.
15. Use of the article as claimed in claim 1.
